Chaac God

Mayan Rain God Chaac

A Deified Force of Nature

Who was Chaac?

Chaac, also known as Chac or Chaahk, was the mighty and revered Mayan rain god. As a pivotal figure in Mayan mythology, he commanded the power to summon thunder and rain by cleaving the clouds with his colossal axe. This act of meteorological manipulation was essential to the agricultural society of the Mayans, ensuring the growth of their crops and the overall prosperity of their communities.

Before Christianity spread through the Mayan civilization, Chaac was the embodiment of weather patterns. His presence brought the life-giving rain, quenching the thirst of the land and nurturing its fertility. The Mayans held him in high esteem, understanding that their very survival depended on his beneficence.
